The MaltaMedia Sports Service, a pioneering content provider on mobile phones through SMS, has expanded it services on Vodafone’s SMSFlash to include more international sports news and the much awaited Formula 1 news coverage.
SMSFlash, launched last November, allows customers to pull content via an SMS message onto their mobile phone from anywhere in Malta and overseas anytime (Maltese subscriptions only). It simply works by sending a blank SMS from any mobile phone to a particular number. In a few seconds' time, a message will be received back with the relevant information. In most cases the news, be it the latest from the local scene or sport results are available shortly after the event to provide the latest hottest news possible. They are available 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week.
MaltaMedia.com is providing sport results for local football (2345), Italian Serie A (2346), UK Premier football results (2347), and as from Thursday, European and International football (2348) and Formula One news (2341).

Vodafone advises its etalk SMS users that as from Thursday, 1st February 2001, their SMS account will no longer be restricted to a time-window. This means that the new SMS block rates, that is, 42cents for 12 messages and Lm1 for 30 messages, as announced in January, will still apply, however, the number of messages allocated to one’s account can be used up within an indefinite period of time.
Instead of the currently used SMS top-up number, 09636363, etalk clients will now need to dial either of the following numbers; 901 to activate their SMS account with 30 messages or 902 to activate their SMS account with 12 messages.
etalk clients can easily check the balance of messages remaining by sending a blank (or any character) SMS to 1001. In return, the etalk client requesting this balance will receive an SMS with the amount of messages left in his/her SMS account, says Vodafone.
